Derek Fitzpatrick

Dublin based artist Fitzpatrick is interested in expressing basic human emotion- tragedy, ecstacy, doom, and so on… trying to shed insight into the essence of humanity or the human condition. He wants to give the viewer material experience and reconnect people with physical reality, the truth of what it is to be human. Fitzpatrick believes that painting should be a visceral and emotional experience for both the artist and the viewer, capturing transient thoughts, feelings and emotions. He seeks to take the viewer beyond seeing nature and into an experience more felt then seen, not wanting his paintings to be treated as just interior decoration, there is a difference between prettiness and power and its power that Fitzpatrick is after.
